Let's make this clear and get this out the way first. In 2009 The Senate passed a resolution apologizing for both the institution of slavery and the existence of Jim Crow laws. Something happened though. Congress realized that an apology would mean that descendants of slaves or those who suffered from segregation laws or policies could seek compensation or be awarded reparation. America was not about to give African Americans reparation like they gave the Indians.
So, 150 years after the last slaves were freed America still haven't found it in their heart to publicly apologize nationally. "The Land Of The Free" do not want to acknowledge that this land was the largest enslavement territory in history.
Well now African Americans/Blacks are finally demanding for the first time in years that America finally give an apology. This is not about no 40 acres and a mule. This is simply about acknowledging and correcting the wrong that was done. Slavery happened. How do African Americans move forward if America can not even apologize for treating them like animals, raping their women, killing them as if their lives were meaningless. The effects of slavery still exist until this very day.
Yes we have come a long way since only 150 years ago. Many of us never thought we would ever see a black man become the President of the United States. The facts still remain, why won't America apologize? Why can't African Americans finally be freed from the cruel history that America refuse to take the responsibility for? Will African Americans ever get a apology? Until America acknowledge their wrong, African Americans will for ever have to relive the cruel history of slavery.
