For so long many parents see what's going on in their city and sit back and wait for city officials to take action. Their is more teenage killing than ever before going on in many cities. So where are the parents?
Changing the thinking of out youth starts at home. Many people seem to follow the trend of when things go wrong just blame the city. We all have to play a part in bettering our communities. Get your children off the streets. Parents complain that there is not much for their kids to do after school hours. Which may be true in many cities around the world especially our black communities. In no though does that mean allow your child to run the streets. Yes your child should be able to go outside and enjoy their childhood but when you know what's going on out here is it even worth the risk?
The choice of joining a gang, carry a gun, selling drugs are all choices that our teens are making on their own. When it comes to preparing your child to be able to make the right decisions in them situations, that has to come from home. It's the city job to fight gang violence, keep guns out the city and to keep drugs out the city. I remember growing up and my parents telling me that if a neighbor caught them doing something wrong then the neighbor would possibly whooped them if need be. In today's generation if another parent or adult even think about whooping another child it's a possibility that they could get killed.
Soon the day will come that parents realize that they have to stop pointing the finger and take resposibility for the child/children. No longer can you sit and wait and hope for the city to make it better for our youth when it starts at home. Where are the neighborhood watch programs? It's a lot more we can be doing but nothing will get done if you just want to sit back and blame the city and not take responsibility.
